Jimmy Choo launched their Autumn Winter 2017 collection at their store in Sandton City’s Diamond Walk.
I went along for a night filled with Moet and catch ups and ended up being mesmerised by all the sparkles and fluff. It might sound gaudy and kitsch, but it definitely was not. Don’t get me wrong, there is definitely a time and place for both, but it’s not in a Jimmy Choo collection.
I am now convinced that Jimmy Choo was every Disney princess’s shoe designer of choice.
I was instantly attracted to the sparkles. What girly woman wouldn’t be? It transported me to childhood fairy tales from Cinderella to The Twelve Dancing Princesses (this was one of my favourites as a child). Although the sparkles made me think of princesses, the fluff reminded me of a different kind of fairy tale – The Ugly Duckling – reminding every woman that she too is now a swan. Grown out of the awkward stages and looking fabulous.
The designer truly has a gift for making beautiful things and its shoes make me want to dress up and look my best at all times. Whether that be heels, sneakers or classy flats.
It’s said that this collection was inspired by the last 21 years of Jimmy Choo. “The confidence, the sexiness, the playfulness and the glamour. But as well as looking back we look forward by using unexpected modern fabrications that combine lightness with a sensually glossy finish lending some of the pieces a sci-fi sleekness. The fundamental essence of Jimmy Choo lies in its attitude blended with beauty and this season has it in abundance.”
I couldn’t have said it any better.
The collection is all about contrast – much like the 90s and the Punk Rock era. Perhaps it’s the grunge 90s teenager that was awakened in me when I saw the new collection. Whatever it was, did a little happy dance inside.
